The following program items will characterize this year’s Hydrogeology PhD day:
1. Thematic sessions
Based on the submitted abstracts we will define different thematic sessions and assign you to one of the sessions. In your session you will have the opportunity to present your 2 to 3 minute pitch via ppt, whiteboard or as a free speech.
After your pitch there will be a short interview of about 5 minutes about your presentation. We will take notes on 2 pinboards about your topic and your methodology. The pinboards will be used to define possible intersections to your contributions.
2. Deep Dive Workshop
Based on the topic sessions, we want to give you the opportunity to discuss one or more topics in detail with other participants for about 1 - 1.5 hours. This could be a common software you are using for your research and you would like to know how a other participant is using it, or maybe this person has more experience with the software and can help you with a problem you’re facing.
The 1. Keynote will be a presentation by Berd Kirschbaum from the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA). The topic will be about the conflicts of groundwater usage with regard to climate protection and drinking water protection, in which it will be made clear how the topics of hydrogeological research are used or implemented in German politics. Regarding the exact title and the corresponding keynote speeches, we will inform you soon.
4. Panel discussion
Furthermore, we are planning a panel discussion. We have invited experts from the fields of science, economy and politics/civil society on the topic "Climate protection vs. drinking water protection: Can the required climate protection objectives be reconciled with that of drinking water protection?
5. Social events
An important factor of any PhD day is always the social interaction. For this reason there will be a PubQuiz and a city rally on a voluntary basis.
For Friday there will be a geological bike trip through the western part of Berlin organized by Dr. Robert Bussert (TU Berlin). Please write us a short mail if you want to participate, to know how many bikes we need to rent. The tour will be in English. You cand find the exact route here.
